Making the MOST of YOUR LIFE

In 2006 whilst working for a major FTSE 100 company in the UK I was in the fittest shape of my life. On one particular day in the march of that year, I ran the 10KM in 39 minutes and 37 seconds - a great time. Plus, that same day played 90 minutes of intense football.

I was 'Super fit!' That night I went to sleep feeling really content. During the night my right foot developed an itch and simply whilst sleeping I scratched the end of my big toe on my right foot, I'm sure you all like me can imagine a time when you to have maybe done this.

Within two days the scratch had become a swollen foot, an injured leg and had made me really really poorly.

On the Thursday of that week I went to Tesco's supermarket and was stood at the checkout where I noticed to great alarm my glands in the thighs of my leg were sticking out. The feeling in my mind at that time was that nothing else mattered and I knew something was wrong.

On the Friday I went to the doctor who nearly fainted at the site of my foot and leg. I was sent to the hospital for an immediate check up. I checked in 9.37am, by 13.36 no one had looked at my foot or leg. I was anxious and really concerned.

Suddenly at 14.26 my heart rate crashed and was brought around by an expert team. As I came round there were 14 medical experts around my bed and setting about using the defib to restart my body. Stunned I looked on in amazement as I remembered thinking 'how' had I got here.

Later that day I was diagnosed with a blood poison, which had they not caught in the safety of the hospital WOULD HAVE KILLED ME. At the time I worked all over the remote parts of the North of Scotland, imagine what could have happened if I had been somewhere else?

This experience in my life taught me two things-

1 - Firstly to take the chances we are given

2 - Secondly to take much more care of the relationships in my life by 'doing what I say I will'.
